Blackburn with Darwen

Blackburn with Darwen has an active group of churches working to support their own communities

We support individual churches and groups of churches working together to secure resources, spread knowledge, expertise and build relationships. We are particularly working with the RISE initiative, a group of church leaders which meets regularly to pray for the community. Child and Food poverty is a real concern in the Borough and our Development Worker leading the development of the BwD Food Alliance.

Child poverty is a particular issue; We organised a conference in 2016 to examine the causes and effects, both short and long term, of child poverty. We drew together over 50 health and third sector professionals to examine what what was necessary to act on child poverty in May 2017. As a result, further meetings are arranged periodically to bring those involved in supporting children and young people together to share information and be more cohesive in their response. Strategically in the borough, child poverty is now recognised as a major issue - with over a quarter of the borough's children living in poverty,

Blackburn with Darwen public and third sector organisations are developing the BwD Food Alliance.

Blackburn Church Leaders meet monthly to pray for communities and individuals in BwD. There is much for which we can be thankful, as we stand together to support refugees and asylum seekers, the homeless, those suffering food poverty, mental health issues, and poor health.
